Thinking about contributing to the environment and offering better service to its customers, Parapente Chicamocha has implemented a set of dry or composting toilets at its Dos Ventanas de Chicamocha launch site.
Do you know what dry toilets are?
They are toilets that are primarily characterized by not using water. Instead, they utilize composting materials like sawdust to separate urine and feces.
Due to the water scarcity in the area where the flight location is situated, in the Chicamocha Canyon, this was the most suitable option to provide bathroom facilities for our customers.
In the following video, you can see how the toilets were installed at our flight location.
How dry toilets work
These toilets consist of:
- A fermentation chamber underneath, capable of holding feces for a long time.
- A ventilation system to allow the drying and fermentation of organic matter
After a period of at least six months, the feces that have been composted in this manner can be used as fertilizer or released into the environment without causing public health issues.
