Frequently Asked Questions about Tandem Flights

The flight time depends on the type of tandem flight you select from the available options. In the Chicamocha Canyon, the discovery tandem flight lasts for 20 minutes, but there are flights that can last up to 30 minutes like the Prestige Tandem, and in Curití, the discovery tandem flight is 12 minutes, but the sensation and adrenaline tandem lasts 15 minutes.

We are the largest group of pilots in the area, normally there are five (5) pilots, so we fly five (5) people practically at the same time. However, in high season, we have a group of ten (10) pilots flying at the same time.

No, the tandem paraglider is designed exclusively to fly 2 people (one pilot and one passenger). If you want to fly two passengers at the same time, they would have to fly in different paragliders.

Each of our offices operates on the following schedule:

  • Office in San Gil is open every day from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Office at the Chicamocha National Park (PANACHI) operates on the same schedule as the PANACHI park. In low season, it’s from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm continuous schedule, and in high season, every day from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm continuous schedule.
  • Dos Ventanas flying site in the Chicamocha Canyon, we are usually open every day from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm with prior reservations to coordinate the meeting time.
  • Las Nubes flying site, we are usually open from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm with prior reservations to coordinate the meeting time.

WE FLY EVERY DAY!

It depends on the meeting point that the client chooses, the weather, and the weight of the passenger.

  • If they take the company’s transportation (San Gil departure), usually people are picked up at the hotel between 8:30 and 8:45 am, and return between 1:30 and 2:00 pm since we do not return until all the people on the bus have flown
  • If they take their own transportation, they return as soon as they fly
  • If the departure is from the PANACHI office, we usually have continuous departures from 10:30 am until noon, we recommend having a 2-hour availability.

Keep in mind that heavier passengers fly last because the morning conditions are gentle (good for lightweight people) and at the end they are strong (good for heavy people), if done differently, it is possible that good and comfortable flights may not be achieved!

For any flight, we depend on weather conditions. We have flown with weights of 120 kg (264 lb) in different conditions. If the conditions are gentle, there is a greater possibility of having to land elsewhere, that is, not going up. Keep in mind that heavier people fly last because weather conditions are usually stronger at the end, increasing the likelihood of better flights!

We accept children from 6 years old and weighing more than 35 kg. For all minors, a form must be filled out where the parent or guardian authorizes the activity. For individuals weighing less than 50 kg, it is recommended to arrive early to fly among the first group; otherwise, conditions may change to strong, and the activity cannot be carried out.

Yes, as the responsibility and service provided are the same for both a child and an adult, and the wear and logistics required are the same.

The flight is classified as a tandem or biplane flight, where the passenger is accompanied by an experienced pilot. No previous experience is required. However, if you want to fly alone, without a companion, we recommend taking a look at the courses section.

It is not possible to take the flight

Our pilots have over 15 years of experience in paragliding practice, all have certification or tandem pilot license from the Federation of Air Sports – Fedeaereos.

No experience is required to take a tandem flight as a passenger; we will give you the necessary instructions in the safety briefing.

Yes, it is safe. We support our claim with the number of passengers we fly every year, which is around 6,000 people. If we compare paragliding practice with other things we do in our daily lives, we can tell you that it is safer than riding a bicycle or motorcycle.

We have several landing sites, but the usual procedure is to ascend, complete the flight time, and return to the same starting point. However, things can vary depending on weather conditions. All optional landing sites are included within our organization.

The cost depends on the service selection. In the Chicamocha Canyon, we offer flights ranging from $250,000 COP to $400,000 COP, and in Curití, from $150,000 COP to $170,000 COP.

But there are more options available in the menu; we have flights for all preferences!

The prices are fixed and established to provide good quality service and safety. Our flight equipment is regularly tested and replaced as per schedule. Selling at lower costs would compromise safety requirements in equipment maintenance or hiring qualified and professional staff.

Some individuals may experience nausea or vomiting during the flight, depending on various factors. We recommend having a light meal two hours before the activity. If unsure about how you may feel during the flight, we suggest taking motion sickness medication (consult with your doctor). Additionally, we can land earlier if requested by the passenger.

Closed-toe shoes are essential! Preferably sneakers or sports boots. Additionally, we recommend wearing long pants, a jacket (for the flight only), sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat or umbrella as there is usually a lot of sun.

If the customer wishes, they can bring their camera or cellphone during the flight, but it’s at their own risk! The company offers an additional service with Go-Pro cameras to take photographs and videos during the flight. The material is provided at the end and costs $50,000 COP.

Diabetes without treatment – Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism – Seizures in the last 2 years – Hip replacement – Post-surgical events in the last six months – Pregnancy – Uncontrolled fear of heights – Vertigo – Current psychiatric treatment or within the last six months – Shortness of breath or fatigue with minimal effort – Ventricular extrasystole – Bradycardia or tachycardia at rest.

It all depends on the weather conditions. The flight location in the Chicamocha Canyon is at 1740 meters above sea level (M.S.L.), and in Curití, it’s at 1800 meters above sea level (M.S.L.), but we easily ascend to 2000 meters above sea level

If you want to fly in the Chicamocha Canyon, it’s recommended to be there by 10:00 am, as the afternoon winds are usually too strong for flying. However, we have flights in the afternoon at the Curití flying site (where we do not have the same view or height as the Chicamocha Canyon).

Yes, we currently work with the company “Seguros del Estado,” which provides us with accident insurance and third-party liability insurance. The insurance cost is included in the flight service.

If you have availability, we can reschedule; otherwise, you will receive a 100% refund.

Frequently Asked Questions about Courses

The most comprehensive course lasts for 10 days, but we also offer mini-courses of 5 days, 1 day, or 3 hours.

It includes the necessary equipment for the course, transportation, and instruction.

It does not include: meals, accommodation, hydration, snacks, or a license.

If you complete the full 10-day course, we can assist you in obtaining a Novice Pilot license with the Federation of Air Sports, but the cost is NOT included in the course fee

No, many people believe that by taking an introductory course, they can become tandem pilots. However, this course only provides a novice pilot level where you can fly in calm conditions and familiar flight areas. To fly tandem, you need to meet a series of requirements that typically take about 2 years of consistent practice.

Rainy days are not counted as practice days, but they can be used for theoretical classes and flight simulations.

Yes, as long as you demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to fly in strong thermal conditions in the Chicamocha Canyon. We consider the type of license you have, the amount of flight you have completed, and where you have flown. Additionally, if permission is granted to fly, you do so at your own risk.

No, we do not rent equipment. For individuals with limited experience, we offer courses by days. This allows us to assess what you can or cannot do and make decisions when you are ready to fly.
